  1. Instructions for accessing CSO Power Tools Online
  2. (Updated January 13, 1993)

  4. CSO Power Tools Online is available to worldwide HP internal users by 
  5. connecting to the CSO Internet Server through HP Internet.  The Online 
  6. system offers the advantage of instantaneous updates (the CD-ROM is only 
  7. updated monthly).

  21. ACCESSING POWER TOOLS ONLINE THROUGH INFONET
  22. --------------------------------------------

  24. Most PC users who are connected to the HP Internet also have the 
  25. "InfoNet" set of utilities available to them.  InfoNet is part 
  26. of the HP PC-COE (Common Operating Environment).  The easiest and 
  27. fastest way to access Power Tools Online is through InfoNet.
  28.  
  29. Power Tools Online is available through an InfoNet application called
  30. "Remote Services."  Once InfoNet is installed on your PC, start 
  31. Remote Services by typing "RS" at your DOS prompt, or by clicking 
  32. on the Remote Services icon in MS Windows.  
  33.  
  34. Scroll the menu until you see "Power Tools Online," then press the 
  35. <ENTER> key.  Or, keyword search on "Power Tools" to get to the correct
  36. Remote Services entry.
  37.  
  38. If you do not currently have InfoNet installed in your networked PC,
  39. check with your local IT department.  If for some reason you are unable
  40. to access InfoNet's Remote Services, follow the instructions below for 
  41. connecting directly to the Power Tools Server in Cupertino, California.

  44. SETTING UP DIRECT PC ACCESS TO POWER TOOLS
  45. ------------------------------------------

  47. These instructions assume you are going to access the CSO Power Tools 
  48. Online Internet server from a PC that is connected to the HP Internet 
  49. using LM/X (LanManager client software).  If you are not familiar with 
  50. networks, have your local networking expert help you with these 
  51. instructions.
  52.  
  53. To TEMPORARILY add this system name to your configuration:
  54.  
  55. 1.      Using "ADDNAME," type the following command from the MS-DOS prompt 
  56.     on your PC (the example assumes you are at your "C:>" prompt):
  57.  
  58.     C:>addname hpcuppb 15.9.91.178    <ENTER>
  59.  
  60. 2.      The system should respond with the message: "Added name HPCUPPB 
  61.     successfully."
  62.  
  63. To PERMANENTLY add this system name to your configuration:
  64.  
  65. 1.      Using "INETNAME," add the following information into the 
  66.     appropriate fields:
  67.  
  68.     SERVER/COMPUTER NAME:     HPCUPPB
  69.     IP ADDRESS:               015 009 091 178
  70.     TYPE OF SERVER:           LM Server
  71.  
  72. 2.      Remember to reboot your system to permanently add this 
  73.     configuration.

  76. WORKSTATION ACCESS
  77. ------------------
  78. Currently, there is no user interface designed specifically to access 
  79. the Power Tools data files through a UNIX Workstation.
  80.  
  81. It is possible to use the Document Management System (DMS) interface on 
  82. a workstation equipped with SoftPC, emulating an MS-DOS window. 
  83. However, this configuration may operate very slowly, since you will be 
  84. subject to FTP as well as network traffic delays.
  85.  
  86. Using DMS on a PC is the preferred method of access.
  87.

  90. STARTING
  91. --------
  92.  
  93. Let's assume that you are going to designate this particular network 
  94. drive as "R:>" on your PC.  (Be sure that you are not already using 
  95. "R:>" for something else.)
  96.  
  97. 1.      From MS-DOS, type the following command (the example assumes you 
  98.     are at your "C:>" prompt):
  99.  
  100.     C:>net use r: \\hpcuppb\field     <ENTER>
  101.  
  102. 2.      (NOTE: There is no password required for this net use command)
  103.  
  104. 3.      The system should respond with the message "Command completed 
  105.     successfully."  If you get any other message, check with your 
  106.     networking specialist to see what went wrong.  (One possible reason 
  107.     for error is that you have not designated "LASTDRIVE=Z" in your PC 
  108.     system configuration.
  109.  
  110. It is highly recommended that you exit Windows, NewWave, or any other 
  111. shell you may be using before you proceed further in logging on to CSO 
  112. Power Tools.
  113.  
  114. 4.      Let's assume that you have designated your networking drive as "R."  
  115.     Within MS-DOS, change to that drive.
  116.  
  117.     C:>r:     <ENTER>
  118.     R:>
  119.  
  120. 5.      Type the command "start", then press the <ENTER> key.
  121.     
  122.     R:>start      <ENTER>
  123.  
  124. 7.      The system will reply "Now connecting you to Power Tool."
  125.     After a few seconds, you will now see the welcome screen for 
  126.     "Document Management System."  A "DMS Main Message" screen gives 
  127.     you any important messages, such as new content or update 
  128.     information.  Use the cursor keys to view this message.  When you 
  129.     have finished, press <ENTER> or <F8> ("Continue Program") to 
  130.     continue.

  132. 8.      You will be in the Power Tools main menu.

  135. ENDING

  138. It is recommended that you disconnect from the CSO Power Tools Internet 
  139. Server when you are not using it, because there are a limited number of 
  140. access ports available for all users.
  141.  
  142. Simply exiting from Power Tools by pressing <F8> will not disconnect you 
  143. from the server.  From within MS-DOS, type the following command from 
  144. any drive other than the Power Tools drive letter:
  145.  
  146.     C:>net use r: /d
  147.  
  148. (If your Power Tools drive is another letter besides "R:", use that 
  149. letter instead.)  The system should respond with the message "Command 
  150. completed successfully."
  151.  
  152. Turning off your PC will accomplish the same thing as typing the above 
  153. "net use" command.
  154.  
  155. To re-connect to Power Tools, simply type a full "net use" command as 
  156. explained at the beginning of these instructions.

  159. Full instructions for using the DMS user interface and navigating 
  160. through Power Tools are available by pressing <F7> ("Help") from any 
  161. Power Tools menu.
